Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU Float)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position requires comfort working across all PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and MS (Medical-Surgical) units.
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM).
- Floating: May float 2-3 times per shift, with staffing needs re-evaluated every 4 hours.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block.
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract.
- Charting: EPIC experience required.
- Accepts first-time travelers.
- Locals accepted with radius rule applied.
- Pending license accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience working with Adult patients
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- IV therapy
- Phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line care
- Trach management
- Non-invasive airway support
- Cardiac monitoring
- Experience with Epic
Unit Details
- PCU average nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1
- MS average nurse-to-patient ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
Additional Requirements
- Background check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam: Within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
- Fit testing: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually.
- Immunizations: Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and seasonal flu vaccination or declination form.
- TB test: Negative PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 1 year; if positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire.
- References: 2 clinical references required.
- Employment application/resume required.
- Skills checklist: Must be updated annually.
Scheduling & Policies
- Call-off policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
- All requests for time off must be submitted with application.
