Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Binghamton, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Shift options: 2x12-hour shifts and 2x8-hour shifts or 5x8-hour shifts available.
  • Responsible for medication administration for up to 25 patients.
  • Must have psychiatric nursing experience.
  • Duties include writing shift notes, conducting and documenting nursing assessments, and preparing weekly/monthly notes.
  • Staffing may include 2-3 RNs per unit; all RNs collaborate with Mental Health Therapy Aides to maintain a therapeutic environment.
  • One RN will serve as charge nurse per shift.
  • Overtime requires prior approval and is generally discouraged unless there is a vacancy.
  • Shift swaps require approval and proper documentation.
  • Meal breaks are 30 minutes and cannot be combined with 15-minute breaks; breaks must be taken in non-patient areas, and sleeping on the unit is prohibited.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Psychiatric nursing experience required (years of experience not explicitly stated, assume minimum 2 years typical for behavioral health travel RN roles).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required (AHA or Red Cross).

  • Flu vaccination or documented declination for current flu season.
  • COVID-19 booster preferred but not required.
  • Completion of New York State Central Registry and Criminal Background Check fingerprinting (to be completed onsite).
  • Background check within 1 year covering last 7 years of residence/work/school history.
  • Education verification of highest degree required; foreign degree equivalency evaluation if applicable.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Skills checklist required.
