  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych) with specific procedures and timelines
  • Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results required for RNs in Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, and Labor and Delivery units (results can pend if proof of submission is on file)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Medical Fit Mask Test within 1 year prior to start (specific PPE required)
  • Tdap vaccine or declination required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually
  • Titers or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing within 30-60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season
  • Latex Questionnaire required prior to start

Competencies & Training

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing (required)
  • Abuse Reporting Competency (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation)
  • Competency Exam (specific to specialty, e.g., Sonography if applicable)
  • Orientation includes exams/tests such as Pharmacology, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting, and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for certain units
