Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (NICU)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 night shifts
  • Start Date: February 23
  • Unit: LDR unit with 6 beds and a Level 2 nursery
  • Ratios: 1:1 patient care ratio
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes (unless schedule states otherwise)
  • Floating:
    • Within hospital: Yes (to vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections as baby nurse when nursery is closed)
    • To sister hospitals: No
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated unless otherwise stated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Return to Office Restrictions: 1 week max

Experience & Skills Required

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years in NICU
  • Required Skills:
    • Newborn resuscitation skills
    • CPAP and hi-flow experience
    • IV start skills
    • Experience attending high-risk deliveries as baby nurse
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Additional certifications recommended or required by unit (may include ACLS, PALS, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, etc. - verify per unit)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 45 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, State-specific searches (WA WATCH)
  • Education Verification: Required (Diploma/Transcript acceptable for RNs)
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, color blind testing, dysrhythmia/EKG, competency exam, and others as applicable
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam (within 1 year)
    • Fit mask test (within 12 months)
    • Immunizations and titers: TDAP, TB test or chest x-ray, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination), Varicella
    • Drug screening (10 panel)
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination (seasonal)
    • COVID vaccination or declination (for tracking)
  • Facility Specific:
    • Photo for badge (DMV style, no selfies)
    • Various agreements and training modules (e.g., EPIC integration video, umbilical cord blood collection training for L&D RNs)
    • WA multi-state licensed nurses must complete suicide prevention training and demographic attestation as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed hours may be adjusted based on census; providers may be called off or placed on-call in 4-hour increments up to one shift in a 2-week cycle.
  • For ambulatory or surgical areas closed on weekends/holidays, travelers may not be scheduled or guaranteed minimum hours during those times.
