Job Description

• Desired start date: 02/23
• Work schedule options: 36 or 48 hour weeks (indicate preference)
• No Return to Office (RTO) in first two weeks of assignment
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Float Requirement: May float to other Med/Surg Units, ICU Units, and ED waiting rooms
• Night shift ratios: 1:5-6, no LPN on nights
• Charge nurse duties: Free when fully staffed (5 RNs); charge nurse takes 3 patients when fully staffed, 6 patients when staffed with 3 nurses
• Equipment used: EPIC, Pyxis

Unit Overview

• 40-bed medical surgical unit specializing in neurological disorders such as Stroke, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and other inflammatory brain/spinal cord disorders
• Large spinal surgery population including post-op neuro-surgery, ortho-surgery, laminectomy, and spinal fusion patients
• Includes six step-down/telemetry beds and six bariatric beds
• Four-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit admitting seizure patients starting at age 5

Requirements

Experience

• Preferred 1-2 years Med/Surg experience (use 2 years as requirement)

Licenses & Certifications

• Michigan RN license required
• BLS (AHA) required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required prior to start (pending OK)
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC)

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, APEX, Bluecloud) - must be updated annually
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (completed within 1 year prior to start, passing score ≥80%)
• Competency Exam in specialty (completed within 1 year prior to start, passing score ≥80%)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (tracking only for this role)
• Education verification required (copy of highest degree or diploma acceptable)
• Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements (not specifically required here)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Proof of 1 prior Tdap vaccine
• Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions)
• Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination required
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions)
• 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (no exceptions)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after 11/1; proof or exemption must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing

Additional Notes

• No charge nurse responsibilities unless staffing is low
• May be asked to float to ICU and ED waiting rooms
• Use of EPIC and Pyxis systems
• Must work every other weekend
• Contract length is 13 weeks
