Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

Shift: Every Other Week (EOW)
Schedule: Option for 4x12 hour shifts
Float: Required
Charge Nurse: Possible, as needed
Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6
Skills Required:
- IV starts
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care / Wound Vac
- Level II Trauma experience preferred
Licensure: Alabama RN license required
Certifications:
- Current BLS (AHA or ARC) required
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
Other Requirements:
- 30-minute lunch break required, no skipped meals
- Travel experience preferred (not mandatory)
- Locals considered within a 60-mile radius
- Schedules are fixed once contract is confirmed; no changes or additional time off approved after confirmation
- Cannot accommodate other per diem schedules or contracts

Experience Requirements

Years of Specialty Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year MedSurg experience preferred due to skill set and trauma experience preference
Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Required Documentation & Compliance

Licenses & Certifications:
- Alabama RN license verification (primary source)
- Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Certification (preferred)
- ACLS and PALS certifications required based on unit assignment (not required for MedSurg)
- National certification/verification as applicable
Background Checks:
- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in last 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks including all aliases
Education Verification:
- Official transcript, diploma, or third-party education verification required
Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start
- Tdap vaccination or declination within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with follow-up if positive)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella vaccination, history, or positive titer
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or declination (year-round requirement)
Competency Exams:
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (Vaya standard)
- Competency exam as applicable to specialty
Facility Specific:
- Must review and sign traveler attendance policy prior to start

Additional Notes

Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Candidates must be prepared for fixed schedules and no post-confirmation schedule changes.
Local candidates within 60 miles are considered.
This position requires adherence to strict documentation and compliance standards to meet Joint Commission and facility requirements.
