Overview
Join a Level 1 Trauma 18-bed Operating Room team performing a variety of surgeries including General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant.
Work Schedule
- Variable shifts: days/evenings, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts
- Call required Monday-Friday 9:00 PM - 6:30 AM
- Weekend and holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care during surgical procedures
- Circulate with focus on Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases
- Collaborate closely with the surgical team
- Maintain patient records in EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working in a Level 1 Trauma center with Level 1 trauma patients
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Experience
- ENT, Genitourinary (GU), Plastics, Burns specialties
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual renewal required)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Other certifications as applicable per unit assignment
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (mask required if declined)
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- References: 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting results must be current within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if there is a break in service over 90 days
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are not yet available at start
- Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required annually
- Employment application and skills checklist required prior to start
This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity surgical environment with diverse case types in a Level 1 trauma center setting. Candidates should be prepared for variable shifts and call responsibilities.
