Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)
Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on the IMCU (Intermediate Care Unit) - 5th Floor unit
- Patient ratio typically 4:1 depending on acuity; may be 5:1 if acuity is low
- Responsibilities include managing drips such as neo up to 100, precedex, insulin (glucomander), arterial lines (A lines), and TR bands
- Experience with stroke patients and post-procedural care required
- Use of Epic electronic health record system required
- Return to office (RTO) within 7 days or less, with only 1 holiday allowed
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent stepdown experience
- Experience with stroke patients and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
- Experience working with neonate patients
- Experience managing norepinephrine drips up to 100
- Experience with precedex drips
- Experience with arterial lines
- Experience with TR bands
Certifications & Training
- BLS and ACLS certifications must be current; AHA strongly preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification valid for 2 years
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York specific)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff)
- Color Blind Testing prior to start
- Other facility-specific competencies as applicable
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date
- Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (N95 or equivalent)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (positive titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within 3 years for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
- Annual skills checklist completion
- Completion of facility-specific onboarding modules prior to first shift
- Photo for badge (appropriate headshot)
- Completion and signing of facility-specific job description and welcome packet
This position offers a travel/contract opportunity in a step-down unit requiring strong critical care nursing skills, stroke and post-procedural experience, and proficiency with Epic EHR. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
