Job Opportunity: House Supervisor - Registered Nurse

Location: Newark, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Weekly schedule includes 3 eight-hour shifts and 1 twelve-hour shift (total 36 hours/week).
  • Shift times vary: 11pm-7am, 3pm-11pm, and 7pm-7am.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend.
  • Average daily census: 180 patients across 5 units.
  • Previous charge nurse experience required.
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers.
  • Local candidates must live more than 75 miles away.

Patient Population & Units

  • Neurobehavioral unit with dementia/Alzheimer’s patients exhibiting violent behaviors.
  • Rehab unit for post-orthopedic surgery and cardiac procedure patients.
  • Secure dementia unit for residents at risk for elopement.
  • Long-term care units.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical resource and problem solver during off shifts (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Provide clinical expertise, staff mentoring, and coaching.
  • Facilitate patient flow across all units.
  • Supervise nursing care delivered on all units organizationally.

Special Equipment & Procedures

  • Experience with wound vacs, PICC lines, nephrostomy tubes, tube feeds, indwelling catheters, colostomies, etc.
  • Skilled in code management, de-escalation techniques, emergency preparedness, managing assaultive behavior, and infection control.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (DPH, TJC, OSHA).
  • Ability to start and maintain IVs and manage PICC lines.
  • Experience with productivity standards, staffing requirements, coaching, and counseling to performance standards.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines, risk management, sentinel event monitoring, and workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
  • Minimum 2 years of House Supervisor experience, including within the last year.
  • Experience in charge nurse roles.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NRP certification.
  • TNCC certification.
  • EFM certification.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.
  • Code management experience.
  • Experience with de-escalation techniques.
  • Emergency preparedness experience.
  • Experience managing assaultive behavior.
  • Risk management experience.
  • Experience monitoring and reporting sentinel events.
  • Familiarity with organizational escalation processes within a healthcare facility.
  • PICC line care and management experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state scope of practice labor laws, including FMLA.
