Job Opportunity: Step-Down Registered Nurse
Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Seeking a Step-Down Registered Nurse with 2+ years of recent Step-Down experience.
- Work Schedule: 36 hours guaranteed, every other week (EOW) & every other holiday (EOH)
- No blocked scheduling
- Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
- Medication system: Pyxis
Patient Population / Diagnoses
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Post heart catheterization
- Post vascular procedures
- Respiratory failure (BiPAP / CPAP / Vapotherm)
- Cardiac dysrhythmias
Unit Procedures / Expectations
- Post-heart catheter care including TR bands
- Post-vascular procedure monitoring
- Frequent vital signs and neurovascular checks
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in New York
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Step-Down nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Ability to independently interpret and manage dysrhythmias
- PICC line management experience
- Experience with procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Proficiency in cardiac drip titration
- CVA / Acute Stroke management experience
- Ability to assist with chest tube insertion and removal
Additional Requirements
- Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
- Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, signed by a licensed provider
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity verification
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (during flu season)
- COVID vaccine records or declination
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Completion of facility-specific documents including code of conduct, patient abuse reporting, confidentiality agreements, and orientation packet acknowledgements
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and telemetry assessments
- Two professional references within 3 years of hire
- Skills checklist verification
Notes
- Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted.
- Telemetry competency testing includes a minimum 80% score on a cardiac rhythm interpretation assessment on the first day of orientation, with remediation if needed.
- Nurses are responsible for independently measuring and interpreting telemetry strips as no telemetry technicians are employed.
This position is ideal for experienced Step-Down RNs comfortable with cardiac and neurological patient care, telemetry monitoring, and post-procedural nursing care in a fast-paced environment.
