Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Medical Surgical Oncology to provide care for adult to geriatric patients. The role involves managing oncology and hematology diagnoses, oncologic emergencies, and administering chemotherapy precautions and pain management drips.


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics
  • Oncology and Hematology patients

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in the specialty
  • 1st time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Skills and Work Setting Requirements

  • Oncology diagnoses from diagnosis to end-of-life care
  • Hematology diagnoses
  • DNR/Comfort Care (CC)
  • Oncologic emergencies
  • Chemotherapy precautions
  • Management of morphine drips, dilaudid drips, CADD pumps, PCA pumps
  • Occasional floating within the facility and possibly to a nearby location (within 3 miles)
  • Use of Epic electronic health record system (required), Pyxis, and SBAR communication method

Staffing and Schedule

  • Patient ratio: 1:6
  • Unit size: 19 beds, average daily census of 15
  • Weekend shifts: Every other weekend
  • Call: None
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (with specific guidelines)
  • Return to Office (RTO) policy: Maximum 7 days

Required Compliance and Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedules
  • Orientation hours vary based on contract length

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Georgia
  • BLS and OCN certifications current and valid
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Required immunizations and health screenings including:
    • TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccination or signed declination (seasonal)
  • Background check completed within 30 days of start
  • Education verification of nursing degree (can be pending with proof of processing)
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Medication and competency exams as required (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG competency for applicable units)
  • Color blindness test required

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Floating may include other units within the facility
  • No call requirements
  • References: 2 clinical references required
  • Work history verification required (can be pending with proof of processing)
