Registered Nurse - Endoscopy

Location

  • Bangor, Maine

Job Summary

  • Work in a Level II Trauma Center with 411 beds.
  • Unit includes 6 Endoscopy procedure rooms (4 outpatient, 1 inpatient, 1 advanced procedure room).
  • Patient population includes adults and pediatrics (peds assignments only if comfortable).
  • Procedures include interventional, staging tumors, screening, and diagnostics.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • 40 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: call only (no weekend call for travelers currently)
  • Call is optional, typically late call only, no overnight call; 30-minute response time required
  • Major holidays closed (NYD, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas) with call only
  • Minor holidays staffed as usual
  • Time off requires manager approval

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Patient Ratios

  • Intraprocedural: 1:1
  • Pre-Op: 1:4
  • PACU Phase I: 1:1 (rarely done)
  • PACU Phase II: 1:3
  • Average 36 cases per day

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Endoscopy experience as an RN
  • First-time travelers considered only with 3+ years of Endoscopy experience preferred

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Pre-procedure, intraprocedural, and post-procedure nursing experience required
  • IV starts required
  • Scrub/tech experience highly preferred (confirm with manager if none)
  • Floating between pre-procedure, intraprocedural circulating, intraprocedural scrubbing, and post-procedure roles

Procedures Required

  • Colonoscopy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
  • Sigmoidoscopy
  • GI bleeders with banding

Preferred Procedures/Skills

  • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Food bolus removal
  • Endobronchial ultrasound
  • BRAVO/pill cam
  • Assisting proceduralist and scope cleaning (“teching” experience)

Unit Support and Environment

  • Fully staffed with 19-24 RNs
  • Charge RN available
  • Sterile Processing Department support
  • 15 physicians in rotation
  • Anesthesia available Monday-Friday to run 6 rooms fully
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Equipment: Pyxis, Alaris
  • Scrub color provided
  • Free parking available

Orientation

  • New Employee Orientation (NEO)
  • Unit orientation: 4 days

Compliance and Additional Requirements

  • Background checks, drug screen, immunizations, certifications, and various health and safety attestations required (e.g., ACLS, BLS, N95 fit test, Hep B, MMR, TDAP, etc.)
