Laboratory Technologist

Job Overview

Role Summary

• Performs laboratory testing, reports results to physicians, and supports laboratory operations, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance.
• May serve as a general supervisor for waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing after probation is completed.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Technologist (1 year of experience)
• Medical Technologist experience within the last year
• AMT or ASCP
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related area of specialty

Key Responsibilities

• Perform testing across laboratory areas including hematology, immunohematology, immunology, bacteriology, microscopy, routine chemistry, and therapeutic drug monitoring.
• Perform phlebotomy, including arterial puncture, capillary punctures, and venipunctures as appropriate.
• Process specimens, calibrate and maintain instruments, and carry out quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Validate and report test results accurately and on time.
• Assist with laboratory policy and procedure manuals, orientation, teaching, and development of new procedures.
• Follow safety practices related to biohazards, blood-borne pathogens, infection control, hazardous chemicals, and chemical hygiene.

Work Conditions

• Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Requires standing, walking, kneeling, bending, fine motor skills, and manual dexterity.
• Work may involve limited space, frequent interruptions, temperature variation, and moderate equipment noise.
• Exposure category I: risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
