Job Summary
Provide nursing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients on a medical/surgical progressive care unit (step-down), who do not require ICU transfer. Patient populations include post-op surgical patients, pre/post PCI care, pacemaker placement, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy (non-titratable drips), thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and various surgical cases.
Care involves physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support, skilled assessment, and intervention for potential deterioration. Operate advanced medical equipment and manage patients with central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple IVs, and long-term stable ventilation support including CPAP or BiPAP oxygen support.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient care and outcomes. Act as a clinical leader, assist with precepting staff, and provide direct care from admission through discharge, including discharge planning. May provide guidance to RN, LPN, CNA, housekeeping, and dietary staff.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Montana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 3 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
