Job Opportunity: Scrub Tech - Outpatient Surgery (Per Diem)

Location: Loveland, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract (1 month)

Position Summary

The Surgical Technician assists during surgical procedures by selecting and placing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment. Responsibilities include scrubbing in, passing instruments, retracting tissue, operating equipment, and maintaining aseptic technique throughout surgeries.

Essential Functions

• Prepare for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring their functionality.
• Review case carts for accuracy and plan ahead for upcoming cases.
• Anticipate surgeon’s needs and assist during surgery.
• Dispose of sharps and trash, participate in counting instruments and sponges, and prepare instruments for cleaning.
• Ensure surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
• Assist with operating room turnover, stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning.
• May perform assigned administrative tasks to support the department.
• Follow all policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
• Participate in emergency call rotation.

Physical Demands / Environment

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching.
• Physical agility and quick reaction time to patient care needs.
• Adequate hearing, visual acuity (including color vision), fine motor skills, and eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to assist patients with ambulation and transfers using proper body mechanics.
• May lift up to 75 pounds.
• Use of standard precautions due to exposure risk to blood and bodily fluids.
• Effective communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
• Periodic use of computer, phone, and office equipment.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum in stressful situations.
• Conscientious, organized, and able to respond quickly to surgeon and patient needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or
• 2 years of operating room experience.

State-Specific Certification Requirements (Applicable if working in certain states)

• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist educational program with active certification by NBSTSA, NCCT, or other approved programs.
• OR completion of appropriate military training in surgical technology.
• OR employment as a surgical technologist before September 1, 2009.
• OR federal service performing related duties.
• Certification must be active and in good standing prior to independent scrub duties.

• 1 month (per interpretation of contract length value).
