Location

  • Omaha, Nebraska

Contract Details

  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts, day shift (06:30–18:30)
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week
  • Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals

Unit and Patient Population

  • Med Surg ICU with 34 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • ICU: 1:1–2
    • PCU: 1:4–5
    • Med Surg: 1:5–6
  • Patient types: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
  • Common diagnoses include:
    • Respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock
    • Neuro surgery (experience not required)
    • Renal failure (CRRT) and general surgery
    • Psych/overdose, GI bleeds, cancer-specific surgeries (e.g., esophagectomy, internal chemo)
  • Equipment and procedures:
    • CVPs, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard hypothermia protocol, Bell Mont rapid transfuser
    • Respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs troubleshoot vents
    • No telemetry/monitor techs; RNs must read and interpret Draeger heart monitoring strips

Responsibilities

  • Titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and participates in RRTs and codes
  • Float to all inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
  • Collaborate with attendings, fellows, residents, and student providers in a team environment

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Valid driver’s license required at time of submission (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
  • Pass a 90% or higher on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation

Additional Information

  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
  • Scheduling is managed by the unit manager based on unit needs; weekend requirement is every other weekend
  • Holiday coverage: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday as needed
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:18
  • Scrub color: Navy blue
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities
