Registered Nurse (CVOR) - Travel Contract

Location: Carmichael, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced CVOR RN with main OR experience to cover a travel contract. The nurse will primarily work in the CVOR suite but will float to the main OR when no CV cases are scheduled.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Unit: Operating Room (CVOR and Main OR)
• Suites: 1 CVOR suite, 9 Main OR suites
• Surgeries per day: 1-2 CVOR cases, 30+ Main OR cases
• EMR system: Cerner (Surginet)
• Shift: Day shift, 10-hour shifts

  • CVOR start time: 6:30 AM
  • Main OR start time: 6:45 AM
• Hours per week: 40
• Weekend: No regular weekends; 1 weekend call per month (Friday 2:30 PM to Monday 6:00 AM)
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific OR orientation with preceptor

Patient Population & Case Types

• Experience with CVOR and Main OR cases required
• Common surgeries include Vascular, Neuro, Robotic, Orthopedic, Trauma, and General Surgery
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips (Telemetry skills required)
• Ventilator patients present

Team & Support

• Charge Nurse oversees all OR
• Nurse Aides: Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs)
• Surgeon availability: 24/7 during regular hours; on-call overnight and weekends
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy: Available 24/7
• IV Team: Not available

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of CVOR nursing experience
• Prior main OR experience required (candidate will float between CVOR and main OR)

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must provide 2 supervisory references from modality submitting to (1 within past 12 months, 1 within past 3 years)
• Valid government-issued ID required for verification (name must match legal ID exactly)
• Candidates must not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any related facility within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Scrubbing for CVOR cases is not required
• Scrub color provided by facility
