Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA)

Location: Winona, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Required Certifications & Experience

  • BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) via NBSTSA
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program (must be certified)
  • Must have 3 years of CST experience (Certified Surgical Technologist)
  • Experience with General surgery and Orthopedics, specifically total joints
  • Prefer experience in Plastics
  • Must have experience in similar-sized facilities such as Trauma Level 3 & 4 and/or Critical Access Hospitals

Work Environment & Case Types

  • Department: Operating Room (OR)
  • Number of OR Suites: 7
  • Average cases per day: 5-25
  • Common cases include:
    • General surgery
    • Orthopedic/sports medicine
    • Plastics and cosmetics
    • Podiatry
    • Cataracts/Eye procedures
    • OB/GYN/Women's Health (non-cancer related)
  • Preference for candidates comfortable transitioning between scrubbing and assisting

Scheduling & Call Requirements

  • Workweek: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (typically 0645-1515)
  • Includes late stay rotations and on-call rotations
  • Scheduling is block-based and managed by the manager; flexibility required to fill gaps
  • Weeknight on-call: 1-2 times per week, approximately 15.5 hours total
  • Weekend on-call: 1-2 times per month, 24-hour shifts from Saturday 0645 to Sunday 0645
  • Holiday on-call: May be required day before, day of, and day after holidays; if holiday falls on Monday or Friday, weekend before or after may be included
  • Call response time: 30 minutes

Additional Information

  • May be asked to float into other roles such as OR scrub role PAA/PACU, sterile processing, or other support areas
  • Scrub color/dress code provided by facility; scrubs cannot be worn outside the facility
  • Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor plus 1-2 call shifts with a preceptor
  • Facility is a rural community hospital with a wide variety of cases
  • Radius rule: 100 miles
