Job Opportunity: Med-Surg Telemetry RN (Travel)

Location: South Charleston, West Virginia
Unit: 5 Pavilion - Med-Surg Telemetry
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 7p-7a, full time, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (set rotation)
Holiday Requirement: Rotating with core staff, with some preference possible after tenure

Unit Details

• 32 beds
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6
• Patient population: Adult and geriatric patients with surgical, orthopedic, urology, and medical diagnoses (e.g., hips, shoulders, knees)
• Remote telemetry monitoring 24/7 with Charge RN reviewing strips
• Float requirements: May float to other Med-Surg units (3P or 4P) or Emergency Department boarders

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• Care of post-operative and medical patients
• Prior travel experience required
• Prefer cardiac drip experience
• RNs must be able to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin based on protocol)

Staffing & Roles

• Charge nurse role may be assigned to traveler if willing; cross-training available
• Nurse aides present with a ratio of 1 aide to 10 patients

Equipment & Technology

• CPAP, BiPAP
• IV pumps
• Pulse oximetry
• Sequential compression devices

Orientation & Training

• General hospital orientation on first day
• Full day nursing orientation
• Computer training (full day for nurses)
• Two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor
• Abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due within 90 days

Dress Code

• RNs/LPNs: Navy solid color scrubs
• CNAs/Monitor Techs: Dark grey/pewter solid color scrubs
• No embroidery or patterns allowed
• Solid undershirts in white, grey, or black matching scrub top
• Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs
• Optional fleece zip-ups in grey, black, navy, or royal blue

Additional Notes

• Block scheduling allowed with consideration of staff requests
• Floating to other units or ED boarders may be required
• Charge nurse may have modified patient assignment (usually 2 patients) or be free charge depending on staffing
