Assignment Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Location: Near Colorado border, Wyoming
- Unit Type: Stepdown/Telemetry with a focus on cardiac and cardiothoracic patients
- Beds: 24
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 6:45 PM)
- Scheduling: Block scheduling and self-scheduling allowed, more flexibility on night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month
- Holiday Requirement: Rotation every other holiday (New Year's, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Possible, with permanent staff rotation
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses:
- Pre/post cardiac procedures (stents, pacemakers, ICDs, CABG, vascular procedures)
- Femoral and radial heart catheterizations
- Cardioversions on the floor
- Post-thoracotomy (directly from PACU)
- NSTEMI
- Tracheostomies (home vented, BiPAP, CPAP)
- Chest tubes
- Nurse:Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4
- Nights: 1:4-5
- Nurse Aide Ratios:
- Days: 1:8
- Nights: 1:12
- Telemetry Monitoring:
- Monitor techs handle monitoring, measuring, and documenting
- RNs do not need to be telemetry experts or read their own strips
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty: Tele/Stepdown RN with cardiac focus
- Years of Experience: Experienced with pre/post heart patients including stents, pacemakers, ICDs, CABG, and vascular procedures (implied minimum experience required)
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
- Skills:
- Experience with titrating drips (some drips titrated, some not)
- Common drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, nitroglycerin, dobutamine, and integrilin
- Experience with cardiac surgical patients and high acuity care
- Ventilator Experience: BiPAP, CPAP, and home vents present; home vent experience not required
Additional Notes
- Preference for more stepdown nurses than telemetry nurses
- Heavy cardiac and cardiothoracic surgical patient population
- No call required
- Permanent address must be at least 25 miles from the facility location
