Telemetry PCU Nurse

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced PCU nurse
• Location: Glendale, California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

• Active BLS
• Active ACLS
• Active NIHSS
• Active CA License
• 2 full years of experience
• Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Must be able to read and interpret tele strips
• Must be able to titrate drips
• First time travelers are okay

Preferred

• 2 years of experience in telemetry
• EKG interpretation class

Unit Details

• Tele-PCU split into 3 units
• Tele I: 7th & 8th floor
• Tele II: 6th floor, split into 6 Central and 6 North
• Bed counts: Tele I has 44 beds in double occupancy rooms; Tele II has 32 beds total, with 20 beds on 6 Central and 12 beds on 6 North
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 everywhere except 6N, which is 1:3

Clinical Setting

• Common patient types include cardiac, CHF, chest pain, pneumonia, respiratory, and sepsis
• 6N has vents, but vent experience is not required
• Common drips include Cardizem, amio, dobutamine non-titrating, and titrating heparin

Scheduling and Float

• No block scheduling
• Modified self-scheduling may be granted depending on unit staffing needs
• Every other weekend required
• No call or standby requirement
• Float scope: all tele nurses other than 6N nurses float to MedSurg or Rehab; 6N nurses float to ICU/CCU
• Travelers float first

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse typically does not take a patient load
• Patient care techs are typically 1-2 per shift depending on census
• Navy scrubs
• 3-shift orientation
• Strong customer service skills and a team-oriented approach are emphasized
