Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care (Mixed Cardiac and Medical ICU)
• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Employment Type: Travel
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On Call: No call required
• Floating: No floating required
• Nurse/Patient Ratio:

  • ICU patients: 2:1
  • IMCU patients: 4:1

Unit & Patient Population

• Mixed cardiac and medical ICU
• Patient types include:

  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Acute Respiratory Failure
  • Myocardial Infarctions (MIs)
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABGs)
  • Ventilator-dependent patients

Job Summary

• Provides routine and complex nursing care independently in a critical care setting.
• Demonstrates clinical judgment and manages contingencies.
• Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers.
• Practices consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
• Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
• Administers medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, families, and caregivers.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
• Experience: Minimum 1 year recent experience in critical care or related specialty preferred
• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Louisiana RN License or Compact RN License
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) via AHA
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) via AHA

Orientation & Onboarding

• New hires must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
• Preceptorship by a trained staff member.
• Completion of organizational and Critical Care Department-specific competency validations.
• Annual competency verification required.

• Some block scheduling available with flexibility on days.
