Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Med Surg Neuro
• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
• Weekend Hours: As needed
• Call Requirements: None
• Number of Openings: 1
• Float Requirements: Will float to Med Surg and Progressive units
• Patient Ratios: 1:6
• Unit Beds: 17
• EMR System: EPIC
• Equipment: Customary, including IV pumps

Required Certifications

• BLS
• NIH (can be completed at orientation)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Med Surg Neuro specialty (higher value confirmed)
• Must have charge experience OR willingness to learn and take on charge duties
• Neuro and Stroke experience highly preferred
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Patient Population

• Medical and Surgical Neuro patients (e.g., Parkinson’s, Stroke, Lumbar)
• No trauma patients

Job Summary & Responsibilities

• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans
• Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
• Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes
• Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy including central line care
• Prepare patients for exams and explain procedures/treatments/discharge instructions
• Maintain safe patient care environment adhering to infection control and medication protocols
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to assess and modify patient care plans
• Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
• Promote patient safety and act as patient advocate
• Document patient care accurately in records
• Attend Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned
