Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Medical ICU
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide direct patient care in a Cardiac Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a focus on cardiac and medical ICU patients. Care for critically ill patients including those recovering from open heart surgery, with cardiac arrhythmias, STEMI, post cardiac arrest, and other complex medical conditions.
Shift & Hours
- Night shift (19:00 - 07:30)
- 36 or 48 hours per week (flexible, must be indicated on submission)
- Weekend hours as required (approximately every other weekend)
- No call requirements
- Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week required
Unit & Patient Information
- 22-bed unit
- Patient ratio: 1:2
- Patient types include sepsis, respiratory failure (pneumonia, COVID, ARDS), post cardiac arrest, GI bleed, DKA, PE, renal and liver failure, pancreatitis, overdose, suicidal ideations, and alcohol withdrawal (CIWA)
- Equipment used: Impella, IABP, Prismax CRRT, Zoll internal cooling device, Arctic Sun
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Skills & Experience
- Strong cardiac medical ICU skills, inpatient care focus
- Experience with cardiac emphasis including arrhythmias, STEMI, and post cardiac arrest care
- Ability to float to other stepdown units as needed
Physical & Work Environment
- Frequent standing and walking
- Bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
- Exposure to blood and body fluids
- Flexible with shift schedules and patient care demands
Additional Requirements
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for travel period November 1 – April 1 (declinations not accepted)
- Adherence to dress code: black scrubs only; no hats, non-approved jackets/sweatshirts, or AirPods
