Registered Nurse - Neurology (Travel)

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Neurology
• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime: Applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work 3 weekends every 6 weeks; every other holiday
• Float Requirement:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Unit Info:

  • 37 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:5-6; Nights 1:5-7
  • Charge nurse takes partial patient assignment
• Work Environment:

  • Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
  • Strong leadership and supportive nursing team
  • Navy blue scrubs required; no competing logos allowed
  • Attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination

Experience & Certifications

• Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years strong neurology experience
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment required
  • Trauma Level II experience
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class may be required)
• Certifications:

  • Current active compact nursing license
  • AHA BLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Patient Population & Skills

• Patient Population:

  • Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op craniotomies, cerebral angiograms
  • General medical and psychiatric patients
• Required Skills:

  • NIHSS, dysphagia screening, strong neurological assessments
  • Basic telemetry interpretation
  • Strict intake & output monitoring
  • Straight catheterization and Foley catheter care
  • Initiate and titrate heparin drips
  • Blood and blood product administration, venipuncture, blood cultures
  • NG tube management
  • Indwelling drain management
  • Stable medication drips (e.g., Protonix, Lasix)
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

• No local candidates within 40-mile radius
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
• Must be adaptable, resilient, and able to manage change well
