Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Job Summary

Provide competent clinical nursing care in an emergency department setting, coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process. Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure quality and safe care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver care to patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
• Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
• Organize and prioritize patient care based on patient and family needs.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and update care plans.
• Assess patient readiness to learn and use appropriate patient education materials.
• Anticipate discharge needs and assist in discharge planning.
• Participate in unit goals, performance improvement, and promote cost-effective care.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment.
• Communicate effectively within the healthcare team and with patients/families.
• Apply cultural competence in patient care planning.
• Engage in professional growth activities and research application relevant to nursing practice.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN or MSN from an accredited school of nursing.
