Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Oakland, California
Facility: Pediatric Acute Care (Level 3/4)


Job Details

  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts
  • Contract Length: 10 weeks
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract

  • Float Requirement: Must be able to float to other UCSF facilities

Required Qualifications

  • California RN License
  • AHA BLS Certification
  • AHA PALS Certification
  • Acute Care Experience
  • AORN Perioperative 101 OR with 5 years experience in a level 3/4 acute care facility
  • Proficiency in at least 3 of the following specialties:
    • General Surgery
    • Neurology
    • Orthopedics/Spine
    • Otolaryngology/Airway
    • Genitourinary (GU)
    • Plastics
    • Ophthalmology
    • Cardiac

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in General Surgery, Orthopedics/Spine, Neurology, Cardiac
  • CNOR Certification
  • Level 1 Trauma Experience

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • Certifications:

    • ACLS (AHA only, no placeholders)
    • BLS (AHA only, no placeholders)
    • PALS (AHA only, no placeholders)
    • NRP (for applicable units)
    • CHEMO (for Oncology and Peds Oncology)
    • TNCC (may be required for ER/ED)
    • EFM (for Labor & Delivery)
    • State License Verification (Primary Source within 30 days of start)
    • NURSYS Verification (within 30 days of start)
    • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam (required for all RNs)
    • CPI (for Psych positions)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (for ED RNs)
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (may be required for ER/ED)
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%+)
    • Unit Specific Competency Exam (passing score 80%+)
    • Core Part I, II, III (passing score 80%)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Sex offender search for extensions with assignment gaps over 30 days
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC), within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB tests (2 required, with specific timing and documentation)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines, history of disease not accepted)
    • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination (required Nov-April)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption (medical or religious)
    • COVID-19 Booster 2 required for all travelers

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of UCSF Learning Center Modules prior to or within the first week of assignment
  • Pass/Fail Medication and Telemetry exams on first day of orientation
  • Review and initial COVID-19 preparedness, parking, uniform, and cybersecurity policies
  • Annual TB questionnaire and other health screening questionnaires as required
  • Wage Benefit Parity (WBP) form completion for clinical candidates
  • Emergency contact information submission
  • Compliance with UCSF COVID-19 policies including religious and medical exemption processes

Employment History & References

  • Resume with last 7 years of work history, explaining gaps of 30+ days
  • Verification of 7 years of work history (third-party verification if needed)
  • Two supervisory references required (from most recent or second most recent employer)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
