Job Opportunity: PCU/Tele Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dededo, Guam
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry
- Unit functions as a telemetry unit but provides PCU level of care.
- Patient ratios: 1:4-5
- Shift: Assigned primarily to one shift (day or night) without shift preference option.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, flexible to support facility needs.
- Holidays: Working holidays is mandatory; specific dates determined by unit needs.
- Overtime: Not guaranteed; at management discretion.
- Floating: Must be willing to float within scope to Med-Surg and ED Tele overflow as needed. ICU float only within scope of practice.
- Locals residing in Guam are not eligible.
- Passport in hand required for travel.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- Preferred: 3-5 years of experience.
- First-time travelers are NOT accepted.
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Must have Compact or Guam RN license in hand at time of application.
- ACLS (American Heart Association provider card required; digital certificate only).
- BLS (American Heart Association provider card required; digital certificate only).
Additional Certifications (as applicable)
- PALS, NRP, Conscious Sedation, ESI, NIH Stroke Scale, Alaris IV Pumps, Pyxis CareFusion, and others may be required depending on unit assignment.
- Facility requires completion of specific nursing modules prior to start (approx. 8-12 hours).
- Drug Calculations and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) testing onsite during orientation (pen and paper format, must pass with 80% or higher).
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year (facility does not require but Aya recommends).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Fit test for approved masks within 1 year; onsite fit testing available if needed.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); medical exemptions considered with facility-specific form.
- COVID vaccination strongly preferred; declination requires facility-specific waiver.
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable).
Background & Documentation
- 7-year background check required within 1 year prior to start, including criminal and sex offender searches.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be done annually.
- Government-issued photo ID and current US passport required (Canadian passports not accepted).
- Emergency contact form required prior to start.
- Work history verification for last 10 years required.
- Two professional references required (for travel/per diem acute care roles).
Scheduling & Travel Notes
- Travelers have a 4-day window to switch or find coverage before schedule finalization.
- Return to Origin (RTO) requests must be approved and included in contract prior to start; max 3 consecutive days per 2 weeks, max 7 total days.
- Flights are not reimbursed; candidates should budget for round-trip airfare.
- Candidates should plan to arrive at least one day before start date due to long travel times and time zone differences.
- Travelers should be prepared to pick up additional shifts as needed due to census fluctuations.
