Job Opportunity: PICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
• Call Requirements: None
• Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
• Floating: Mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float within their scope as needed
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Local Candidates: Accepted and preferred within a 75-mile radius
• Charting System: Cerner
• Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma Center

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Experience working with Neonate patients
• Experience working with Pediatric patients

Additional Requirements

• Background Checks: Must have a background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years, including aliases and various national/statewide checks
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
• Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, color blind testing, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start
• NIH Stroke Certification: Required for RNs in critical care and related specialties, must be updated annually

Work Environment & Expectations

• No block scheduling
• Must be willing to float as required by the facility
• Scrub color: Any color allowed

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• Locals are preferred but travel candidates are welcome.
