Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- 1st Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, with occasional scheduled holidays.
- May be required to float to other locations.
- Experience required in all areas of the department, including:
- Decontamination of all items (e.g., drills, robotic surgery equipment, scopes)
- Assembly of instruments across all service lines (trauma, loaners, peel packaging)
- Sterilization processes (Sterrad and steam)
- High-level disinfection (HLD) and scope experience
- Sterile storage management
- Operating Room liaison duties
- Experience with Censitrac tracking system
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in a similar high-volume, Level One trauma facility.
- Certification: Must have either CBSPD or CRCST certification (through HSPA, formerly IAHCSMM).
- Background check: 7-year criminal background check required within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
- Must comply with fingerprinting requirements specific to Ohio (BCI & FBI fingerprinting with code 3701.881).
- Required to complete various background and compliance checks prior to start.
Certifications & Competencies
- National certification verification required within 30 days of start.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen).
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies.
