Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Hartford, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position involves working day/night shifts or permanent nights.
  • Schedule includes 3 shifts: two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts.
  • Work every other weekend or every weekend.
  • Requires at least 1 year of NICU experience in a Level III or higher NICU.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete accepted. Required for Tele, Step Down, ER, GI Lab/Endoscopy, L&D, ICU, OR, PACU, IMC, and Cath Lab.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete accepted.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete accepted. Required for ER, OR, PICU, RRT; NICU preferred.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete accepted. Required for NICU.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for all ER candidates.
  • State License: Must have a current Connecticut RN license (permanent preferred; temporary may be allowed with approval). License name must match I-9.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required for all psychiatric positions (not specifically noted for this role).

Required Competencies

  • Competency Exam with 80% or higher within a year of start.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, Stepdown, ICU, ER) with 80% pass rate.
  • Core Parts I, II, and III (annual updates required).
  • OSHA Mandatory training (annual).
  • HIPAA Competency or HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual).

Required Background and Documentation

  • Clear copy of front and back of Driver’s License or Passport.
  • Background Check within 30 days of start, including 7-year search, aliases, SS trace, counties, nationwide, statewide, national sex offender, OFAC, and international if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification (diploma may be used as placeholder).
  • OFAC Sanctions List Search if not included in background check.
  • Two references within the past 2 years who directly supervised the candidate.
  • Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps.
  • Work history verification for the last 7 years.
  • Skills checklist updated within 1 year of start.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (chest up, solid background, no others in photo).
  • Signed confidentiality agreement, code of conduct, conflict of interest, contractor checklist, and pediatric medication calculation exam.
  • Flu vaccine documentation or approved medical/religious exemption (facility-specific forms required).

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, signed by NP, PA, or MD, confirming ability to work full day without restrictions.
  • Respiratory fit mask test annually (specific acceptable masks listed).
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start (TD and declinations not accepted).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually; additional documentation required for previous positive TB.
  • TB questionnaire for past positive TB, updated annually.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: 10 panel within 30 days of start, updated annually. Must be completed within 24-48 hours of acceptance if within the 30-day window.
