Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract
Location: Sacramento, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room at a Level I Trauma Center. This is a travel/contract position requiring experience in a high-volume, fast-paced trauma and emergency care environment.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience required.
- Trauma Level I experience is required/preferred.
- Travelers with 2 or more years of ER experience may be accepted even if they are first-time travelers.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Specialty & Skills
- Experience in Trauma Level I adult and pediatric care.
- Comfortable managing homeless patients, high volume psychiatric cases, sepsis, and stroke.
- Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs.
- Experience in fast track/rapid care settings.
- Ability to care for patients in various ED units including ICU and tele-psychiatry holding areas.
- Familiarity with Magnet facility standards.
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) preferred
- BSN preferred but not required
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Trauma Level I adult and pediatric patients
- High volume pediatric visits (~1000/month)
- 30% admission rate overall; pediatric admissions 18-20%
- Units include Fast Track, Rapid Care, OBS Holding, Tele-Psychiatry Holding, ED ICU, and COVID-designated hallway patients
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear photo required)
- Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, sex offender, and nationwide criminal search within 30 days of start
- E-Verify compliance
- Physical exam cleared within one year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 or equivalent) within one year of start
- Immunizations and titers: TDAP, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or declination required by November 1
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, unit-specific, and pediatric ER exams
- Completion of all required orientation and compliance modules prior to start
- Badge pickup required prior to orientation
Additional Notes
- Must submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation upfront.
- Magnet facility standards apply.
- Travelers will care for patients with PCA pumps but staff manage the pumps.
- No triage or resuscitation room assignments for travelers.
- High emphasis on trauma and emergency nursing skills.
