Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 4x10 hour days (08:45 AM - 07:15 PM)
  • Average Daily Census: 50-60 cases/day
  • Experience Required: Minimum 3 years OR Tech experience
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, once a month (16 hours total)
  • On-call: Yes, as needed for the department
  • Floating: Required within scope of practice to meet facility needs
  • Locals: Not accepted (must live more than 50 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Not applicable (no license required for this role)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred

  • ENT: Direct Laryngoscopy, Radial neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy
  • Endoscopic Procedures: Colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
  • General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection (Open/Laparoscopic), Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
  • Gynecology: Abdominal hysterectomy, Anterior/posterior repair, Bilateral tubal ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal hysterectomy
  • Neurosurgery: Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
  • Oral Surgery: Repair of fractured jaws (mandibular and zygomatic)
  • Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open fracture reduction, Laminectomy/discectomy
  • Plastic Surgery: Free flap - microvascular
  • Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
  • Urology: Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy

Special Requirements

  • Must be in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for fingerprinting
  • Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois (cannot be done out of state)
  • All time off must be approved by manager
  • Discuss return-to-office (RTO) and block schedule accommodations with manager

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Various state-specific criminal and offender registry searches
  • Education verification (degree/transcript)
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
  • Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or documented immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required before start

This position is ideal for experienced OR Techs with strong surgical skills across multiple specialties, comfortable working in a high-volume, Level I trauma teaching hospital environment, and able to commit to a 13-week travel contract in Springfield, IL.
