Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 17 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a Tier 4 General Surgery role in the Operating Room. The assignment involves working with a multidisciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care and operating room activities to ensure efficient surgical case progression and turnover.


Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room / General Surgery
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Clinical Skills & Procedures

Experience with the following surgical procedures is expected:

  • HIPEC
  • Whipple procedure
  • Trauma cases
  • Colectomy
  • Burns
  • Laparoscopic surgeries
  • Da Vinci Xi robotic surgeries
  • Appendectomy
  • Cholecystectomy
  • Hernia repair
  • Organ procurements
  • Preferred: Kidney transplant experience

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must hold a Wisconsin nursing license or a compact nursing license from permanent address state
  • BLS & ACLS certifications required, must be American Heart Association (AHA) certified only

Work Environment & Additional Requirements

  • Must live within 50 miles of the primary work site
  • Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
  • Facility is a Magnet®-designated hospital, recognized as a top-ranked teaching and referral center

Required Compliance & Documentation

  • Background checks including criminal history and caregiver screening per Wisconsin state requirements
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TB testing and questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Completion of facility-specific competency exams and orientation tests (e.g., telemetry tests if applicable)
  • Signed acknowledgments for safety manuals and pass/fail testing as required

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with surgical team to plan patient care in the OR
  • Coordinate OR activities to maintain surgical flow and efficiency
  • Provide safe, competent, and efficient perioperative nursing care according to policies and standards

This position offers a 17-week travel contract opportunity for experienced acute care RNs with strong perioperative skills and flexibility to float across units as needed.
