Job Opportunity: Acute Care Float Registered Nurse

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Job Description

  • This is a Stepdown (PCU) role with frequent floating to ICU and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units.
  • Must be comfortable working across Stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units.
  • Patient ratios:
    • Stepdown: 1:4-5
    • ICU: 1:2
    • MedSurg: 1:5-6
  • 21 beds in the unit.
  • Non-titrating drips including Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, Cardene.
  • Care includes vascular cases (fem-pop, CEA), NSTEMI, post-cardiac cath with intervention, CIWA protocol with IVP Ativan (no Presidex).
  • Experience with Peritoneal Dialysis, stable BiPAP, heated high flow oxygen (<80%), home ventilators (Trilogy), wound care, nebulizers, and hemodialysis in the dialysis department.
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Meditech.
  • Orientation occurs every Wednesday.
  • Every other week (EOW) requirement applies (likely related to scheduling or documentation).
  • Dress code: Royal Blue and White scrubs.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, including within the last year
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Stepdown, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nursing
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Must be willing and able to float frequently between Stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Criminal background check required within 6 months (if signed before 12/14/25) or within 30 days (if signed on/after 12/14/25).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals/extensions.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
  • Immunizations and titers required or facility-specific declination forms for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine series)
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (year-round requirement)
    • COVID vaccination or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD). TB questionnaire required for positive responders and all units except Respiratory Therapy and ER.
  • Drug testing: 10-panel within 6 months (before 12/14/25) or within 30 days (on/after 12/14/25). Instant tests not accepted.
  • Completion of approximately 81 Relias training modules prior to first shift and orientation.

Documentation and Verification

  • Copy of diploma required (transcripts not accepted).
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
  • Performance evaluation required if previously completed assignments through any agency.
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually.
  • Facility-specific documents including job description, data access confidentiality, employee health questionnaire, vaccine declination forms, and badge photo required.

Additional Notes

  • Floating is mandatory across Stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units.
  • Patient care involves managing stable BiPAP and home ventilators, as well as non-titrating drips.
  • Orientation is every Wednesday; candidates may log up to 8 hours for orientation.
  • Scrubs color code: Royal Blue and White.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with acute care nursing across multiple critical care settings and flexible with floating assignments.
