Travel RN Labor and Delivery Opportunity

Location: Cooperstown, New York

Unit Overview

  • Average Monthly Deliveries: 80–90 (varies by month)
  • Unit Composition: Mix of experienced RNs and new graduates gaining OB experience
  • Traveler Role: Essential support due to number of new graduate RNs
  • Unit Features:
    • 4 Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms (each with private bath, shower, spa tub)
    • 8 postpartum rooms with refrigerators and fold-out couches
    • Operating rooms for Caesarean births
    • Special care nursery

Candidate Requirements

Experience

  • Preferred: 3+ years of OB experience
  • Candidates with less than 3 years may be considered if they have prior travel experience or have worked in a specialized OB setting

Prior Travel Experience

  • Consideration given to candidates with prior travel experience (not explicitly required, but beneficial)

Certifications (Required)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWHONN/Fetal Heart Monitoring)

Scheduling & Contract Details

  • Contract Length: 12–13 weeks (shorter durations not ideal)
  • Holiday Coverage: Travelers must work every other holiday, similar to full-time staff; holiday requests approved based on unit needs
  • Additional night shift RN travel contracts may become available

Additional Credential Requirements

  • Active nursing license (Nursys verification required)
  • ACLS certification (optional but recommended)
  • Various health and immunization requirements including:
    • MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Influenza Vaccine, TB Test, Annual TB Questionnaire
    • Physical/Health Statement
    • Drug Screen
  • Professional requirements including:
    • Driver's License/State ID
    • 2 Professional References
    • Criminal Background Check
    • Resume and Employment Verification
    • Sex Offender Registry Checks (National and State)
    • Education Verification
    • Completion of facility-specific competencies, exams, and skills checklists

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who are comfortable working in a busy OB unit with a mix of new graduates and experienced staff, and who hold the required certifications. Prior travel experience is a plus but not strictly required.
