Chemotherapy/Infusion RN - Contract Position

Location: Robinson, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Hours per Week: 40

Position Summary

The Infusion RN provides direct and indirect patient care in the infusion/consulting department with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include prioritizing care based on physical and psychosocial needs, communicating patient status changes to practitioners, initiating IVs (central venous and peripheral), administering blood transfusions and drug infusions as ordered.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and complete patient assessments, including interdisciplinary screenings and pain reassessments tailored to age, culture, and psychosocial factors.
• Provide patient care aligned with patient needs and nursing standards.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and follow-up instructions.
• Assess effectiveness of pain medications and adjust care accordingly.
• Prepare and administer medications per policy and nursing standards, managing medication supply and coordinating with pharmacy as needed.
• Manage antineoplastic agents and therapy following safety protocols, considering physical and psychological effects.
• Explain procedures to patients/families and assist practitioners with procedures using specialty equipment.
• Document patient medical history, pain assessments, medications, and health risk factors thoroughly and timely.
• Maintain patient safety, follow hand-off communication protocols, and ensure a secure environment.
• Comply with all safety procedures to protect patients, visitors, and staff.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of infusion experience, including infusion experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS/ONCC) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Chemotherapy experience.

• Strong computer skills, including EMR navigation.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently within a team.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to perform well under pressure and adapt to changing assignments.

No prior travel experience is required for this position.
