Role Summary

• Med Surg 3CC RN
• 30-bed unit
• Common patient types include total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology procedures, abdominal surgery, bariatrics, medical overflow, and patients with hemo hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies
• No GYN patients; those go to maternity and cardiac MS Tele

Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• Holidays as needed
• Manager makes the schedule
• Day/night rotation will not occur more than weekly if rotating
• Block scheduling may be considered if unit needs are met

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• RN
• Must be able to float to medical and telemetry
• RNs do not read their own strips
• RNs are not required to titrate drips

Preferred Qualifications

• Surgical experience
• Post-op experience
• Early ambulation experience

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: days 1:4-5; nights 1:5-6
• Charge nurse is present on both shifts; nights may occasionally take a low-acuity assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are present at a ratio of 1:12, with 1 tech
• RT handles treatments; nasal cannula is used
• Remote tele packs and a monitor tech are used to read and interpret strips
• Bedside shift report is expected
• Close-knit unit with good culture

Floating

• Float to medical and telemetry
• May assist with strips there and take medical patients in that area

Additional Notes

• Occasional heparin drip, PCA pump, and TPN
• First-time travelers are accepted
• RTO must be provided upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
• Radius rule: 50 miles
