Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Pediatric Acute
Location: Peoria, Illinois

Unit & Patient Information
- Unit shares 22 beds with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (10 beds).
- Patient types: Medical/surgical pediatric patients including hyperbilirubinemia, neurological conditions, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, orthopedic cases.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
- Pediatric Care Techs (PCTs) ratio: 1:8-10.
- Pediatrician coverage: Hospitalist on-site until midnight; 24/7 resident coverage.
- Charge RN and Pediatric crisis RN available 24/7.
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes heated high flow and BiPAP with specific parameters; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage settings.
- Tele/monitor techs monitor patients; RNs do not read their own strips.
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Day shift weekends are Sat/Sun; Night shift weekends are Fri/Sat).
- Holiday work required unless otherwise approved.
- No mandatory call or standby requirements.
- Floating: RNs may float within the children's hospital to other pediatric units or mom/baby units (no ICU or chemo patients unless experienced).
Requirements & Certifications
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA).
- Active Illinois nursing license or proof of application initiation required.
- Must comply with drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen.
- Orientation: 2 shifts minimum, may be extended with approval.
- Dress code: Pediatric-appropriate scrub tops (any color/pattern, not revealing), solid color scrub pants, optional long sleeve or jacket underneath.
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable.
- Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty.
- No explicit mention of required years of specialty experience or prior travel experience.
