Location: Sacramento, California

Job Description
Seeking experienced Labor and Delivery nurses for a travel contract in a high-risk Family Birthing Center unit. The role involves comprehensive care from labor through postpartum, including circulating C-sections and couplet care.
Required Experience and Certifications
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- Active California RN License
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) Advanced certification
- Must be able to float to Maternal Baby (MB) unit and circulate C-sections
- Must be comfortable with all aspects of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) care
- Ability to titrate drips (e.g., Pitocin) required
- Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips on mothers in PACU
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Family Birthing Center - OB / L&D / Postpartum (LDRP)
- Beds:
- Labor & Delivery Beds: 10
- OR Suites for C-Sections: 2
- Triage Beds: 3 OB-ED + 3 antepartum testing beds
- Postpartum Beds: 12
- Birth Volume: Approximately 100-150 births per month
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Couplets: 1:3-4
- Labor & Delivery: 1:1 to 1:2
- Antepartum: 1:1-3
- Common Diagnoses: Preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, hypertension
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor present, generally does not take patients but covers breaks
- OB Surgical Techs available on unit
- OB Hospitalist available 24/7; Neonatologist on call 24/7 with daily rounds; Anesthesia in-house 24/7
- No respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP) on unit
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring System: GE Corometric monitors with Fetalink surveillance
Scheduling and Work Environment
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
- Shift Start Time: 6:45 AM
- Report given at bedside
- Overtime and extra shifts available
- Every Other Weekend (EOW) and holiday rotation required
- On-call response time: 30 minutes
- Floating: May float to other Sacramento facilities; mid-shift float is rare; no in-house floating
- Scrubs provided
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have 2 supervisory references (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)
- Candidates cannot have been employed by certain affiliated health systems within the past year (exceptions for PRN through outside firms)
- "Baby Catcher" role (NRP responsibility) is part of the assignment and may be filled by L&D or NICU staff depending on availability
