Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery Nurse (L&D)
Location: Grand Coulee, Washington
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Required Certifications
- ACLS
- BLS
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring) — must have at least intermediate skill, advanced preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience in L&D, neonatal antepartum, and postpartum nursing
- Must be able to work on an Acute MedSurg floor
- Experience with neonatal antepartum, L&D, and postpartum care required
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Unit Details
- L&D Beds: 2 rooms
- Postpartum beds are acute care beds; patients staying longer than 24 hours are transferred to acute care rooms
- C-Sections performed in OR; OB nurses care for babies but do not circulate in OR
- Births: Approximately 50-60 per year
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Generally 1:1, may occasionally be 1:2; only 1 OB nurse staffed per shift
- No nurse aides or surgical techs on the unit; RNs provide all patient care
- Charge nurse covers entire hospital, not specific to L&D unit
- OBs are Family Practice OBs available in clinic during the day; after hours available within 20 minutes
- Anesthesia is on call, not in-house 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment available (nasal cannula, non-rebreather, high flow for newborns), but no RT staff in-house
- RNs responsible for monitoring patients on magnesium sulfate

Common Diagnoses
- Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)
- Advanced Maternal Age (AMA)
- No prenatal care cases generally referred out
- Unit does not typically take high-risk patients
Nursing Responsibilities
- RNs required to titrate drips such as insulin and magnesium
- Floating to Acute MedSurg floor when no OB patients present
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM and 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM
- Set schedules, typically with shifts blocked together
- Schedule released 4 weeks in advance
- Weekend requirement: Typically every other weekend
- Holiday coverage: Fill in as needed
Orientation & Dress Code
- Department-specific orientation: 1 day on the unit
- No specific scrub color required; must be clean and professional
This position is suitable for experienced L&D nurses comfortable with acute care and neonatal responsibilities, working in a small unit with limited support staff.
