Med-Surg Nurse Opportunity

Location: Klamath Falls, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2.5 years of nursing experience (first 6 months do not count)
  • General surgery experience required
  • Total joint experience preferred but not required
  • ACLS and BLS certification required
  • Must have EPIC experience

Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (no explicit requirement)


Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Total joint replacements
  • General surgeries
  • Gynecological surgeries
  • General medical patients including:
    • CVA (stroke)
    • Pneumonia (PNA)
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Alcohol-related conditions (ETOH)
    • End of life care
    • COVID-19

Unit Details

  • Charge nurse role available; charge nurse takes patients at a lower ratio
  • 24/7 hospital supervisor coverage
  • Nurse aides present with ratios of 7-8 patients per aide
  • Respiratory therapy equipment includes V60 vents, CPAPs, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Central Monitoring Unit staffed with Monitor Techs 24/7; RNs read and verify cardiac strips

Shift & Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts: 0545-1815 and 1730-0615
  • Weekend requirement: typically every other weekend, depending on unit needs
  • Holiday work required
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating not required but may be requested if skill set allows and RN agrees

Orientation & Other Information

  • Unit-specific orientation required (1-2 shifts depending on experience and prior familiarity with the facility)
  • Biweekly orientation sessions starting early January 2025
  • Dress code: clean and professional, no specific scrub color
  • Housing is very difficult for those with pets

Nursing Responsibilities

  • RNs required to titrate insulin drips
  • Common titratable drip: insulin
