Job Opportunity: RN Float Pool (MedSurg, Tele, PCU) - Arizona

Location

  • City: Prescott, Arizona

Specialty

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in MedSurg/Telemetry
  • Minimum 1 year experience in PCU
  • Note: Use the higher requirement of 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry experience

Certifications & Licenses

  • Current state RN license
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing

Patient Population & Care

  • Geriatric patients, orthopedic patients, post-procedural cardiac patients (post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4)
  • Strong cath lab program; care includes groin sites in stepdown unit

Nursing Responsibilities

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4
    • MedSurg Tele: 1:5-6
  • RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
  • Must be comfortable managing majority of these drips
  • Nurses interpret telemetry strips; monitor techs present on PCU and MedSurg Tele units
  • Charge nurses present but do not take patient assignments
  • Nurse aides utilized in all settings

Equipment

  • CPAP or BiPAP used at night in MedSurg
  • BiPAP, CPAP, and Heated High Flow oxygen available in PCU

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Shift hours: 7 AM to 7 PM (AM and PM shifts)
  • Schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time
  • Travelers must be flexible; night shift may allow block scheduling
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Unit assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start
  • Distance between campuses: approximately 20-25 minutes

Orientation

  • 8-hour general hospital orientation day
  • 12-hour shift orientation at West MedTele and PCU units
  • East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate

Additional Notes

  • Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within the past year
  • Dress code: currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs per Dignity guidelines in October
