Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Days (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 hours (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: As required, typically every other weekend
Call Requirements: None

Unit & Patient Care Information

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical, Oncology, Neuro Surgical Recovery
• Unit Beds: 30
• Patient Ratios:

  • Day Shift: 1:5-6
  • Night Shift: 1:6-7 (ratios not guaranteed)
• Patient Types: Surgical patients including GI, GU, Plastics, and Orthopedics overflow
• Equipment Used: Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo enteral feeding pumps, wound vacs, SCD machines, PCA pumps, low air loss mattresses, remote telemetry monitors
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: EPIC
• Float: May be required to float to other units depending on staffing needs

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience in an inpatient setting within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for all age groups including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize comfort and outcomes
• Utilize nursing process consistent with Missouri Nurse Practice Act and professional standards
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
• Evaluate effectiveness of care provided by self and other caregivers
• Adhere to professional accountability and facility mission, values, and service standards

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk most of the shift
• Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
• May work varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs
• Exposure to blood and body fluids considered high risk
• Physical demands include pushing, pulling, gripping up to 50 lbs, pinching up to 15 lbs, minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling

Additional Information

• Flu vaccination is required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
• Scrub color: Black (facility-specific uniform)
• Orientation for night shift occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week is required
