Job Description
Provide high-quality ultrasound imaging of the heart and great vessels for adult patients. Assist with exercise and non-exercise stress testing and perform other related duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels, identifying EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias.
- Use complementary imaging and Doppler techniques to investigate clinical questions.
- Apply M-Mode technique to measure cardiac dimensions at precise cardiac cycle times.
- Estimate severity of valvular insufficiencies using color flow Doppler.
- Assess blood flow through the heart, including velocities, stenosis, regurgitation, and shunts with pulsed and continuous-wave Doppler.
- Use contrast echocardiography when standard imaging is suboptimal.
- Evaluate left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions; document wall motion abnormalities.
- Recognize congenital heart malformations, acquired pathologies, and outcomes of surgical procedures.
- Complete studies according to updated protocols, adding views and measurements as needed.
- Correlate clinical history with exams and consult cardiologists for clarification.
- Prepare and assist patients for dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms.
- Assist cardiologists with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
- Communicate results to cardiologists and respond to questions promptly.
- Maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics.
- Troubleshoot and report equipment failures.
- Participate in mobile echo/vascular services regionally and callback rotation.
- Assist with functional, pharmacological cardiolite, and echocardiography stress testing.
- Document procedures accurately and assess patient ability to perform tests.
- Interpret and clarify physician orders.
- Provide thorough patient assessments in crisis situations and notify physicians as needed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias.
- Complete quarterly competency in stress lab, Holter monitoring, and event monitoring.
- Use segmental approach to obtain images from parasternal, apical, subcostal, and suprasternal notch windows.
- Operate ultrasound equipment controls to optimize image quality.
- Select appropriate transducers for optimal resolution and penetration.
- Obtain, review, and document patient history and clinical data to aid diagnosis.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pediatric echocardiograms ensuring quality imaging and care.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of applicable experience.
- Knowledge of patient positioning, breathing techniques, and transducer positioning for optimal cardiac imaging.
- Proficient in recognizing structural and functional abnormalities and imaging artifacts.
- Knowledge of gross and sectional anatomy.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension).
- Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing.
- Proficient with computers, software-driven testing machines, and digital archive systems.
Education Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Ultrasound (required)
Certifications & Licensure
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Echocardiography
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
