Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position

Location: Youngstown, Ohio

Job Description

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care including executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders, medication administration, and assisting in patient examinations and treatments.
  • Apply nursing and supervisory techniques in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents.
  • Attend sick calls with physicians, prepare inmates/residents for examination, and manage medication dispensing and documentation.
  • Assess new or ill/injured inmates/residents and refer to emergency or appropriate healthcare facilities as needed.
  • Perform emergency procedures and coordinate with Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders.
  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.
  • Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical records.
  • Assist with review and documentation of medical services and monitor potential catastrophic illnesses.
  • Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances.
  • Observe and record inmate/resident behavior and inspect medical units for contraband.
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups.
  • Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records, reports, and logs.
  • Interpret medical, legal, and regulatory documents.
  • Participate in legal processes related to medical services when necessary.
  • Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.
  • Support accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by ensuring efficient and appropriate medical services.
  • Prepare safety and accident reports and respond to serious incidents and emergencies.
  • Escort or coordinate movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment.
  • Conduct searches for contraband and ensure security of confined areas, including working rotating shifts.
  • Take action to prevent or diffuse disruptive situations.
  • Perform rescue functions during accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including basic emergency medical aid and evacuation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree or diploma in nursing.
  • Current nursing licensure in the state of Ohio is required.
  • One year of professional nursing experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Must maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.
  • Use sound independent judgment while adhering to corporate, facility, and correctional policies and procedures.
