Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin

Contract Details

• Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: April 20, 2026
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour shifts, day/night rotation (7a-7p / 7p-7a)
• Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holidays required
• Float: Required to float to all inpatient units with appropriate patient assignments
• On Call: Possible low census call; minimum 2-hour callback

Unit Overview

• Post Surgical Care Unit (PSCU) - 40 bed inpatient unit
• Care for pre- and post-surgical adults and geriatric patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Day/PM: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night: 1:5 to 1:7
• Fast-paced unit with 10-15 admissions per day, highest during day/PM shifts
• Occupancy: 90-95% during the week
• Average length of stay: 2-3 days (except joint patients)
• Requires ability to multitask, prioritize acuity, and work as a team

Required Qualifications

• License: Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Certifications: BLS required
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • Recent hospital experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required
• Prior Travel Experience: Required
• Charting: Epic EMR experience required
• Equipment: Experience with Epic EMR, Rovers for medication scanning, Alaris pumps

Additional Information

• Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Scrub color: Any color allowed
• Low census hours (up to 36 hours) are unbillable; call back pay applies if called in
• Flu and COVID vaccination policy: Travelers declining vaccination must wear a mask at all times during flu season; compliance is mandatory

This position is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical RNs with trauma experience who have prior travel nursing experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced post-surgical care environment.
