Position Details
- Specialty: Neuro ICU
- Shift: 36 or 48 hours
- Ratios: 1:2 (standard), occasionally 6:1 on PCU floors
- Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years

- Weekend Requirement: Varies based on unit needs
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, may float within scope to other ICUs, PCU floors, ED, PACU
- Patient Diagnoses: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH), Subdural Hematoma (SDH), Tumor Resections, Status Epilepticus, other neurologic disorders
- Block Scheduling: Open to accommodation but not guaranteed
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: >7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (any vendor acceptable)
- Skills: ICP monitoring
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, MOAB, CPI, ENPC)
Special Skills & Procedures
- EVD (External Ventricular Drain) insertions and management
- Neuro post-op care
- A-line insertions
- Intubation
- Central line insertion
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- Post-TPA and post-thrombectomy care
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Social Security Card required
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless done within past 12 months)
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required
- State license with original NM license and 3D seal required onsite
- NURSYS verification for RN licenses
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required; declination or exemption preferred
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required with passing score (80% overall, 100% lethal arrhythmia section)
- Medication and competency exams required (minimum 80% score)
- Various facility-specific forms and attestations (e.g., traveler compliance, confidentiality, Cerner training attestation)
Additional Notes
- Travelers may be asked to switch to the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU) with current bill rate honored
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- Location is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
- Overtime applies after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced Neuro ICU RNs willing to work in a dynamic Level I Trauma and teaching hospital environment with a variety of neurological patient populations.
