Registered Nurse (ICU) - Per Diem

Location: Long Beach, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

ICU Registered Nurses are needed for per diem shifts in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Candidates must be prepared to work independently without orientation and be able to integrate quickly into the team.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year recent experience as a staff ICU RN or 2 years as a travel ICU RN
• Active RN License in California
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Willingness and comfort to float to lower acuity units as needed (Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Telemetry, Telemetry, ED Holding)
• Two professional references required (minimum one supervisor) within the last 12 months
• Candidates with 2 or more attendance/performance issues or clinician pipeline cancellations must provide additional references or a written statement demonstrating improvement, with at least 6 months since last issue

Shift Details

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Pre-booking available via scheduling app
• Cancellation policy: Removal from pool if canceling 2 shifts within 24 hours of shift start in a 30-day period

Orientation & Onboarding

• No formal orientation provided
• Pre-start modules: 8 hours (completed prior to start)
• Must complete Epic education modules and HIPAA training before starting
• Must have agency badge

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form
• Background check within 1 year, including 7-year work/location history, sex offender registry, and national checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Physical exam within 1 year
• Fit mask or PAPR fit test within 1 year (annual renewal required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • TDAP within last 10 years (declination allowed)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low titer)
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (declination allowed if low)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (declination allowed if low)
• Seasonal flu vaccine required November 1 - April 30 (declination allowed with masking)
• COVID-19 vaccine not mandatory, but vaccination records collected for compliance in LA County
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (excluding marijuana panel)

Competency & Testing

• Medication calculation competency exam required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU and related units
• Color blindness testing annually
• Skills checklist and internal evaluation annually

Additional Policies

• Must review MemorialCare policies on drug and alcohol, hand hygiene, dress and appearance, and PCA/CNA responsibilities (as applicable)
• Scrubs color: Navy Blue
• Separation period of 18 months required if previously employed or traveled with MemorialCare

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with night shifts, independent work, and flexible floating within critical care and lower acuity units.
