Required Certifications

  • ACLS (American Heart Association only; RQI and instructor cards accepted)
  • BLS (American Heart Association only; RQI and instructor cards accepted)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (accepted from all vendors; valid for 2 years)

Additional preferred or unit-specific certifications may apply (e.g., CCRN, TNCC for ER, PALS, NRP, EFM, CHEMO for oncology, etc.)


Licensure & Verification

  • Active California RN license required
  • Primary source license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Background checks covering last 7 years, including Social Security trace (last 15 years), national criminal search, sex offender search, education verification, and others as required
  • Medi-Cal Exclusion Search required within 30 days prior to start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months clearing employee to work without restrictions
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • Tdap vaccine or declination within 10 years
  • Immunity or vaccination records for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination (required for new candidates starting in September; deadline for working candidates is November 30)
  • COVID-19 seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination (vaccination must be after 8/1/2024)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (no instant tests accepted)
  • Fit mask test for specified masks or approved onsite testing

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Dress code: Solid colored scrubs only (no camouflage, jean texture, or character patterns)
  • Badge photo on plain blue background required within 72 hours of signing
  • Completion of facility orientation packet and acknowledgment prior to start
  • Review and sign facility policies including float policy (for ICU/critical care), timekeeping, privacy and security, COVID-19 exposure questionnaire, parking regulations, and others
  • Completion of required training modules via facility LMS platform (WorkRamp), including Drug Diversion Module for RNs and LVNs
  • Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology test with minimum 80% score
  • Submission of references (2 professional references, including one from most recent experience)
  • Complete 15 years of work history on employment application, including locations and any time off

Additional Notes

  • Travelers may be floated within ICU/Telemetry units as needed
  • Facility does not require specific scrub colors but prohibits camouflage and character patterns
  • Radiation badges for new candidates are not provided by Aya; candidates must obtain from facility if needed
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for ER RNs (in-person or hybrid with in-person skills)
  • Facility requires annual updates for many certifications and documents
